Mario Miranda, the renowned Goan cartoonist, made numerous cartoons that depicted all facets of Goan and Indian life, including jazz culture. His works frequently expressed his thoughts of society through comedy and simplicity, depicting lively scenes and a diverse cast of individuals. His work was characterized by elaborate, interwoven visual storytelling in which each figure contributed to the larger scene's story.
Among his jazz-themed pictures, Mario showed famed saxophonist Braz Gonsalves, a pioneer in the Indian jazz scene noted for fusing Western jazz and Indian classical music. Miranda, who valued music and frequently featured musicians in his work, recognized Gonsalves' effect on Indian jazz. Miranda's artwork brought these settings to life with wit and vitality, emphasizing the relationship between music and culture.
