(Translation: Part of the New Great Maps of the East Indies, Containing the Mughal Lands, Surat, Malabar, Coromandel, Bengal, Aracan, Pegu, Siam, Cambodia, Tonquin & Part of China. Drawn on Multiple Handwritten Cards by a Skilful Connoisseur & Published)
This map was published decades after the Dutch dominance in the region and the heydays of the Dutch East India Company (VOC). The maps' titles indicate that they were derived from multiple manuscript maps created by an accomplished "connoisseur."
This is the northwest sheet of a four-sheet map of Southern and Southeast Asia, with each map containing its own title and standalone borders. This map, which focuses on the Bay of Bengal, shows a good deal of China and the northern part of Sri Lanka. It covers the area from the Pakistani border across India to the Indo-Chinese peninsula, which includes Burma, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Laos. A huge compass rose adorns the Bengal Gulf. Place names and precise geography abound on the map.
