Edward Hamilton Aitken was a civil servant in India, better known for his humorist writings on natural history in India and as a founding member of the Bombay Natural History Society. He was well known to Anglo-Indians by the pen-name of EHA.
The cult following for the writings of Edward Hamilton Aitken (1851–19091), also known as EHA, transcends time. His book The Common Birds of Bombay is prized by ornithologists like gold. Since the publication of his works at the turn of the 20th century, his supporters' fervour has not subsided. In the volume of common birds that he compiled in 1947, Sálim Ali, an extraordinary writer in his own right, praises EHA's work with great reverence.
