A rare Kurdish village rug from the Alborz mountains of North Persia, possibly from the Bidjar region. The composition is a rare interpretation of a kilim or flat weave design with bold abstract forms based on various animal and floral icons. The large pair of diamond-shaped medallions placed in the central field anchors the beautiful field. Three narrow borders surround the central panel with interconnected scrolling vines. There appears to be a strong influence of the Shahsavan group’s weaving style which can be seen in the structure and composition of this beautiful carpet.
