Inscription content: Lettered below the image with the title, incorporated into a dedication, around a crest, from the painter to Henry Dundas 'one of His Majesty's Principal Secretaries of State' and 'Mather Brown Pinxt. Historical Painter to their Royal Highnesses the Duke & Dutchess of York. / F. Bartolozzi R.A. Engraver to His Majesty Sculp. / London, Published December 21. 1793, and Sold for the Proprietor by D. Orme, No. 14 Old Bond Street: and by Walker & Brachenbury, No. 7 Cornhill.'.

The sons of Tipu Sultan bidding farewell to the women of their family, one embracing a kneeling woman on the right, the other stepping forward, looking back and gesturing towards his brother, giving his hand to a man who waits at the top of a flight of stairs to left, while men stand ready below with two elephants, to carry the Princes.
