The River Ganges from Patna to Surdah with Plans of Patna and Monghir
circa 1880-1900s
Later hand-coloured helio-zincograph on paper
10.5 x 25 in (26.8 x 63.5 cm)
The map is a heliozincographed version copy executed by The Survey of India Offices, Calcutta in circa 1880-1900s of a later date of the 1780s original map.
The map shows the course of the Ganges river from Patna to Surdah, with detailed information on the various towns, villages, and landmarks along the way. It also includes plans of the cities of Patna and Monghir, which were important centers of trade and commerce in the region.
One notable feature of the map is its accuracy. Rennell spent several years in India surveying and mapping the region, and his work was based on firsthand observations and measurements. As a result, the map is highly detailed and precise, with accurate depictions of the river's course, as well as the surrounding topography and geography.
