Map published in Edinburgh, scarce and incredibly detailed, illustrating the region in extraordinary detail.

Lizars' maps are more uncommon than those of his contemporaries, John Cary and John Thomson, but they include greater topographical detail.

The Lizars were a Scottish engraver and printer family that created several views and maps. Daniel Lizars Sr. (1754-1812) was the son of a shoemaker, although he trained as a printer and engraver under Andrew Bell. Lizars established his own printworks near St. Giles Cathedral and hired his own apprentices, notably George Bartholomew, whose son John went on to build the influential mapmaking business John Bartholomew & Son Ltd.

Daniel Jr., John, and William Home were Daniel Sr's. three sons. He had a daughter named Jane Home. Daniel Jr. (1793-1875), the youngest of the boys, worked with George Bartholomew at his father's store. Daniel Jr. took over majority of the business when his father died in 1812, expanding it and specialized in maps. However, the firm fell bankrupt in 1832, and Daniel immigrated to Canada.

The middle son, John Lizars (1792-1860), studied medicine and became Professor of Surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, and senior surgeon at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.

The eldest, William Home Lizars (1788-1859), also worked in his father's trade as an apprentice. Following his studies in engraving, William enrolled at the Trustees' Academy to study under John Graham. He was an accomplished painter and artist. After his father died and Daniel Jr. departed, he continued printing and created a form of etching that resembled wood engraving.
