Plate twenty four in 'Picturesque Scenery in the Kingdom of Mysore' by James Hunter. This aquatint is based on a picture by Hunter showing a tomb Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu. Sriperumbudur is best known as the birthplace of the 11th Century Hindu philosopher, Ramanuja.

"Plate thirty nine from 'Picturesque Scenery in the Kingdom of Mysore' by James Hunter (d.1792). This aquatint is based on a picture by Hunter, and shows a rest house next to a tank at Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu. Today, Kanchipuram is considered one of India's most sacred Hindu cities on account of its large number of temples. It is also famous for its expert silk weavers." (Source: British Library Board)
During the Third Anglo-Mysore War, when British and Company soldiers defeated Tipu Sultan, James Hunter served as a Lieutenant in the Royal Artillery under Cornwallis. Views include sites in Seringapatam, Bangalore, as well as the surrounding countryside and British encampments.
