Original hand-coloured outlined copper engravied map showing southern Asia and many of the East Indies, including China, Malaysia, Java, Borneo, and the Philippines. Extending westward to cover India, whose northern portion is referred to as "Mongol oll Industan" here.

Two columns of French text provide geographical information about the location edited by Desnos. As released, the map and border were printed from two different plates, with the text on pasted down sheets.

Louis Brion de la Tour was a French geographer and demographer who lived between 1743 and 1803 and was the Cartographer Royal to the King of France, his official title being Ingenieur-Geographe du Roi.

He was one of the leading cartographers, much of his work was produced in collaboration with Louis-Charles Desnos (fl. 1750-1790) the Danish royal cartographer, who worked as a bookseller and topographical engineer for the Danish Crown. His most important work is generally considered to be his General Atlas of 1766.
