Ancient geographical map with the Empire of the Great Mogul (current India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh and Ceylon) from an Italian edition of Thomas Salmon's, Modern History: or, the present state of all Nations. . . ..entitled Lo Stato Presente...... published in Venice from 1740-1762.
The maps are attributed to Tirion in Amsterdam, although quite possibly they were engraved in Venice.
The map is copper plate engraving with hand-coloring and showing towns and cities and neighboring kingdoms. The Mughal Empire is conventionally said to have been founded in 1526 by Babur, a warrior chieftain from what today is Uzbekistan.
"Isaak Tirion (1705 in Utrecht - 1765 in Amsterdam) was an 18th-century publisher from the Northern Netherlands. According to the RKD, he is most remembered for his Hedendaagsche historie (Modern History) and his Vaderlandse Historie, both historical reference works that were illustrated with engravings by leading artists of Amsterdam."
