Charles Knight was an English publisher, editor, and author. Born in 1791, Knight was the son of a bookseller and printer who entered him into the world of publishing from an early age. After a time as a journalist, and after publishing several of his own works, he became the editor of 'The English Cyclopedia' in 1853.
