The rise and fall of the magnificent Vijayanagara Empire, which lasted for over 300 years in the Deccan, is an inspiring saga of human genius overcoming the odds. In order to fulfil their destiny in the space and time given to them, the monarchs of this truly great state created vast architectural complexes among the dramatic rocks, as monolithic architecture without architects. And they generated a whole world of temples and palaces and symbols which remind us of the wonder that was south India in the middle centuries.
