A Suzani ceremonial embroidered textile from Uzbekistan. The word “suzan” means a “needle”. This textile is composed of a silk fabric backed with local tradecloth and finely embroidered with a variety of abstract floral elements. There appear to be two opposite facing arches embroidered in the central panel indicating that this particular textile may have been used for prayers on special occasions.
