A beautiful Caucasian Kazak carpet, probably the product of a semi settled weaving tribe working in a village workshop setting. The unusually large size may be due to the carpet being woven on special commission for a tribal chief. The brick-red field contains a central column of concentric hooked medallions surrounded by stylized flower heads, in a polychrome square paneled border.
