The ‘Tree of Life’ has been an enduring and recurring symbol in Indian art through the ages. Its representation here, by artist Mangru Uikey, through the Gond style, further highlights a certain aesthetic within contemporary Indian art, which has been defined through the prism of the tribal, folk or the vernacular in the past.
