Originating from Rajasthan, pichwais are mainly made for ritual worship and celebrations at the Shrinathji temple in Nathdwara. These elaborate ornamental paintings, which can be painted, embroidered, printed, woven, decorated with appliqué or even machine-made, are made to depict Srinathji, another name for Krishna, an avatar of the Hindu deity Lord Vishnu, and visually narrate tales of Hinduism.
