Bhuri Bai was born around 1963 in Pitol, Jhabua District, Madhya Pradesh. She is from the Bhil tribe. She is the first artist to make paint on other surfaces besides walls. She has received many honours including the Rani Durgavati and Devi Ahalya Awards. Most of her works are in foreign collections as people from abroad have recognized her talents and bought her work. She works as an artist with the Adivasi Lok Kala Akademi in Bhopal.
