Translated by Nathaniel Brassey Halhed, the English orientalist and the first European to perceive the philosophical affinities of Sanskrit and Latin with contributions by Warren Hastings, the Governor of Bengal. This translation was intended to better understand local codes of inheritance, caste and religion before imposing English laws onto the population.
