Edition Delux
H C White and Company USA
Extremely Rare and Complete set with 95 stereocards
Information on the H. C. White company is remarkably scarce, considering that they were among the top studios of their day, exceeded only by the Keystone View Company and Underwood & Underwood in volume and by nobody in quality.
H C White Co. was founded in the 1870s by Hawley C White as a factory to produce stereoscopes, and later other items. Prior to setting up this endeavor, White - a photographer himself - worked in New York grinding spectacle lenses. This experience in working with optical glass led his firm, which was relocated to Bennington in Vermont, to become known as a leading manufacturer of stereoscopic instruments. A few years later, H C White Co. also began to produce stereoscopic images and stereoviews, which are still known to be among the best in the world.
