This is the only book by this father-and-son mountain climbing team. Includes accounts of expeditions to Mt Everest, Lhotse, Mt Aspiring, Ama Dablam, and many more.
Ed Hillary and his son Peter's collective experience spans five decades of high-altitude climbing and five decades of aid development in Nepal. From 1953 to 1984, the changes were immense. The 8,000-metre peaks were climbed via tougher routes, and the siege tactics of the big battalions gave way to shorter oxygen-less alpine-style ascents, as confidence and equipment have improved beyond all bounds.
Meanwhile, Nepal, the once-secret country from which Ed Hillary climbed to fame on Everest in 1953, opened its doors to tourism and embraced the trekking boom.
"Two Generations" is a frank and engaging book, written with good humour and honesty by a father and son who do not always see eye to eye, but share a zest for adventure which they communicate unstintingly." (Quoted on the dust jacket).
