Has extensive notes and bibliography. A seminal and magisterial work of deep research.
CONDITION: A very good copy in fine dustjacket, except for the name of the previous owner on the title-page written in ink.

Comprehensively covers the entire gamut of artists from Bengal School and Santiniketan to Western School, Calcutta Group, Delhi, and Madras School with a chapter discussing Chughtai, Rabindranath Tagore, Jamini Roy and Sher-Gil. But prudery has prompted the publishers to tamper with two nudes by Sher-Gil and F. N. Souza.
This lot will be sold in "as is" condition.
There may be some minor tears/creases scratches, or holes commensurate with age that may not be visible in the images.
