This three volume set of Viscount Valentina's "Travels" features four large folding maps.
Valentia accompanied the British mission to Abyssinia, to secure a port on the Red Sea. The British were attempting to consolidate their position againstNapoleon's forces who threatened to seize Egypt. Includes descriptions of Lucknow, Benares, Seringapatam, Jeddah, Mocha, Calcutta, Madras and Ceylon, and an overview of the inhabitants and history of the Abyssinian regions of Aksum and Adwa.
