VENKAT RAMAN SINGH SHYAM
Venkat was born on 28 October 1970 in a Pardhan (tribal) family in Sejohra, Mandla District of Madhya Pradesh.
During his early education, he was a high achiever in studies, but due to unforeseen circumstances, he had to leave school and start work.
At the age of ten he began painting, and when he came to Bhopal he decided to make his career as an artist and he resumed his studies.
He have been inspired and influenced by the renowned artist Jagdish Swaminathan and he feel honoured to represent my community of tribal painters. His work is evolving from traditional tribal representation to include contemporary innovative work, and it is a reflection of the changing environment.
He has received appreciation from varied audiences, critics, media and arts aficionados across India and abroad. He have a small studio in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh where he lives with my family. His wife Saroj assists him in his work.
Narmada Prasad Tekam
Narmada Prasad Tekam came to Bhopal in 1983, a few months after Jangarh Singh Shyam. His talent was discovered by a student of the contemporary artist, J Swaminathan in Patangarh.
As a child, when Narmada took the cattle out to graze by the banks of the River Singni, he taught himself to draw by making an imprint of himself in the sand and then tracing the outline with a stick. Later, he started painting on the walls of his house with black and yellow clay. His themes were varied - from figures of humans, animals and birds to gods, like Hanuman. For colour, he used pigments extracted from leaves and flowers. His motifs have changed over the years, and now he draws mainly tigers, deer, birds and porcupine.Narmada Prasad has travelled extensively showcasing his paintings and currently works as an artist in the Adivasi Lok Kala Parishad. In 2006, Narmada Prasad Tekam, was awarded the Shikhar Sanman by the Government of Madhya Pradesh.
