Stylistically the Odisha Jatra paintings and Patachitra’s are the same, the difference is the occasion that they made for. Jathra means the jpurney and here the reference is to the famous annual Jaganath Rath Yatra, when the idol of Jaganath his brother Balabhadra and their sister Subhadra are taken on a grand chariot to visit their aunt and mother. The paintings depict the idols in the chariots in their glory.
