The Pichhwai’s are paintings made on cloth and at times can also be embroidered, these are made in Rajasthan. Traditionally these were made as backdrops for the idol of Shrinathji. Shrinathji was a fourteenth century incarnation of Lord Krishna, whose chief temple is in Nathdwara, near Udaipur in Rajasthan.

Nathdwara Pichhwais are a ritual art form, depicting various episodes of Srinathji such as the raas-leela amongst portrayal of the gopis and radha.
