A CRYSTAL DECANTER WITH HANDLE
This beautiful bulbous decanter curves towards the spout, resting on which is a round tear shaped top knob. The body is decorated with floral vine and spray leaves pattern, punctuated with a single handle.
Wine decanters were created in the 18th century when European wine makers discovered that sediments build up in the bottles as the wine aged. To sieve out the sediments before serving, wine was transferred to a different container and for this purpose the decanter was created. Crystal decanters became very popular in England in the 1800s and eventually made their way to India where they enjoyed equal patronage. The neck of the decanter bears British silver hallmarks.
