"Pichvai Tradition and Beyond is a platform conceptualized by Pooja Singhal in 2010 to sustain, preserve and revive the tradition of Pichvai painting that dates back to the 17th century. The achievement of the project has been to engage existing Nathdwara artists and encourage the remaining few master miniaturists, while training a fresh group of artists alongside, amalgamating two different groups of artists and their styles. The creation of an atelier, unencumbered by the weight of tradition, facilitates supremely skilled painters to merge traditional techniques with contemporary application and ingenuity. The atelier currently has 40 artists in its fold.

For traditional art forms to resonate with contemporary audiences, they require to be reinterpreted and contextualized for the here and now. Over the past years, Pooja's initiative has re-imagined and reworked the historical styles and influences in a newer format and for a wider audience. Through this journey, which is an intersection of revival and intervention, Pooja with her atelier has molded and altered the narrative of the original art form. The works that emerge speak their own distinct language, existing equally as traditional Pichvais with their decorative glory or standing outside their consecrated form as contemporary or agnostic art."
