Description
The Chausath Kala, or 64 forms of art, details methods to master a wide range of art forms including handicrafts, dancing, singing, playing musical instruments, performing household tasks, and learning the scriptures or new languages. They are described in detail in Vatsyayana's 4thcentury composition, Kamasutra. Each scene comes to life in Parida's paintings.
About The Dancing Line by Bijay Parida
National award-winning artist Bijay Parida's patachitras are based on on India's well-known mythologies. His work draws from themes central to Odisha's art and dance: the Shada Ritu (six seasons), Lord Vishnu's dashavatar, the Gita Govinda, the avatars of the gods Jagannatha and Balabhadra, and the two great epics: the Ramayana and the Mahabharata. Birds, foliage, animals, figures and garments are captured in great detail on tussar silk. Parida's use of mineral pigment distinguishes his work from artists; who now increasingly use commercially available paint. The result is a world brimming with vibrant narratives.
