About Everyday Art - Vintage Dokra
Dokra is a non???ferrous metal casting process using the lost-wax casting technique, which has been used in India for more than 4,000 years. Classified as tribal art, Dokra items have a primitive simplicity, enchanting folk motifs and forceful form. Dokra measuring bowls, lamps, caskets etc. embellished with horses, elephants, peacocks, owls and religious images are highly appreciated for their earthiness and affinity to nature. The items for sale in this collection are vintage items of utility created in the Indian villages of West Bengal / Orissa in the mid 20th century and reflect the simplicity of rural life, as it used to be.
